SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Base leadership addressed members of the Goldsboro community at this year’s State of the Military Oct. 10 at the Goldsboro Event Center, North Carolina.
Col. Christopher Sage, 4th Fighter Wing commander, along with Col. Scovill Currin, 916th Air Refueling Wing commander, updated the audience about Seymour Johnson AFB’s accomplishments, its partnership with the community, and current construction projects happening on base.
Members of the Wayne County Military Affairs Committee, including Dr. Scott LaFevers, MAC chairman, attended the event. LaFevers spoke about building the relationship between the base and the community, increasing awareness of what the MAC offers, and promoting base events to the local community.
“The MAC continues to participate in various opportunities to support Seymour,” LaFevers said.
LaFevers also added future plans for the MAC that included hosting a yearly group social and a plan to start a ‘Sponsor an Airman’ program to help further unite Seymour Johnson Airmen with the local community.
Currin addressed the group by recapping the 916 ARW’s year and presented the plans for the recently awarded Boeing KC-46A Pegasus Aerial Refueling Tanker.
The event’s concluding speaker was the 4th FW commander, who spoke about the strong bond between SJAFB and the Wayne County community, base events, and future plans for the 4th FW.
Sage also applauded the relief effort put forth by the base and the local community after suffering the damaging effects of Hurricane Matthew.
“It was definitely a team effort I’m so proud of,” Sage said. “We worked closely with both the county and the city to pull our resources to get through that hurricane together.”
After recapping the current base construction projects including the recently added sun shades to the base splash pad and add-ons to the base fitness center, Sage discussed the biggest project happening on base.
“We are going from having the oldest clinic in the Air Force to having the newest clinic in the Air Force,” Sage said.
The new base clinic will contain state of the art technology and is scheduled to open in 2018.
