MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- (Editor’s note: The mention of Alpha Warrior does not constitute endorsement or affiliation by Moody AFB or the U.S. Air Force.)
The Air Force Services Activity partnered with the Alpha Warrior team April 25 and 26 to promote Comprehensive Airman Fitness.
The program provides a new way for Airmen to work out, build unit cohesion and encourage a sense of community within Airmen and families.
“The strongest, most capable warriors are resilient warriors,” said Maj. Brandon Wengert, 23rd Force Support Squadron commander. “The Alpha Warrior challenge promotes resiliency by encompassing all four pillars of Comprehensive Airman Fitness: physical, mental, social and spiritual.”
As part of the tour, the Alpha Warrior team brought obstacle race equipment, known as battle rigs and stations. The rigs are comparable to those seen on cable TV shows in the U.S. and are designed to train participants’ muscles to work together while making strategic choices.
“The battle rig is not just a physical challenge; it requires Airmen to come together and encourage each other to get through it and overcome each obstacle in their way,” Wengert said.
The winners of the competition are determined by whomever finishes the course the fastest. The Air Force will send the best male and female from each of the 15 regions, as well as the top 10 males and top 10 females Air Force-wide to San Antonio, Texas, where they will compete in the championship.
In addition to the competition, within the next three years the Air Force will be installing permanent battle stations at 40 different Air Force bases around the world, including Moody AFB. The goal of this initiative is to promote each of the four pillars of CAF throughout the year.
“I think this is a great program to continue in the future,” said Senior Airman Christopher Beil, the first Airman who completed the course in its entirety. “While it’s an awesome workout for your muscles, it also builds morale and boosts your mental health. The obstacle course teaches you to face your challenges and if at first you fall, always get yourself back up and continue until you reach the finish line.”
