20th FSS MPS named ACC's best

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. --  The 20th Force Support Squadron Manpower and Personnel Flight Military Personnel Section received Air Combat Command’s 2016 Gerrit D. Foster, Jr. Outstanding Military Personnel Program award.

The award recognizes a unit’s performance in the areas of mission accomplishment and innovation, leadership and management, and customer focus.

“We were just shooting for the best customer service possible for the 20th Fighter Wing and for Shaw Air Force Base,” said Master Sgt. Reneekqua Grays, acting MPS superintendent. “Shooting for that put us as the best in ACC. The award fell in place when we fell in place.”

During 2016, MPS Airmen elevated themselves from 39th place among personnel units in the Air Force-wide large base category to the ninth place, the highest rating in five years.The section also revised routing and storage procedures across six agencies, eliminating potential personally identifiable information violations, and assisted 340 Airmen as part of a personnel deployment function line.

On top of advancing the mission, the MPS is also invested in self-improvement, with more than 60 percent of Airmen assigned to the section pursuing higher education. The section also managed volunteers during the 2016 Shaw Air Expo, “Thunder Over the Midlands,” and Freedom Bash.

“It feels good because we come to work, and we work hard,” said Airman 1st Class Nilka Masud-De La Rosa, 20th FSS evaluations personnel specialist. “It’s good to be recognized and to know our hard work is paying off and other people see it.”

The MPS offices are in charge of maintaining records and ensuring accurate information for individuals in the 20th FW as well as the U.S. Air Force’s Central Command and 9th Air Force allowing service members in other units to focus on their missions.

After winning at the major command-level, the 20th FSS MPS is scheduled to compete at the Air Force-level.
