800th RED HORSE Group

The 800th Rapid Engineer Deployable, Heavy Operational Repair Squadron, Engineer (RED HORSE) Group activated at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, June 1, 2020. Three contiguous U.S. active duty RED HORSE squadrons and one training detachment consolidated to form the 800th RHG under 15th Air Force.

The RHG provides the Air Force with a highly mobile civil engineering response force to support contingency and special operations worldwide with its 1,100 plus personnel and over 30 plus Air Force Specialty Codes, including the following specialties: operations civil engineers, emergency managers, vehicle maintenance, supply, logistics plans, force support, security forces, communications and medical personnel. The group is charged to organize, train, equip, and modernize its three RED HORSE Squadrons. The RHSs are self-sufficient, mobile construction units capable of rapid response and independent operations in remote, austere environments worldwide. It provides heavy repair capability and construction support when requirements exceed normal base civil engineer capabilities and contracted engineering solutions do not achieve the required effects. In addition, it accomplishes engineer support for beddown of weapon systems required to initiate and sustain operations in an austere bare base environment, including remote hostile locations. Finally, the Silver Flag training site, 823rd RHS Detachment 1, trains 4,000 Airmen annually on contingency wartime skills.

The primary RED HORSE tasking in peacetime is to train for contingency and wartime operations. It participates regularly in Joint Chiefs of Staff and major command exercises, military operations other than war, and humanitarian civic action programs. RED HORSE performs training projects that assist base construction efforts while, at the same time, honing wartime skills.

The three squadrons and one detachment that were consolidated into the 800th RHG were the 819th RHS located at Malmstrom AFB, Montana; 820th RHS located at Nellis AFB, Nevada; 823rd RHS located at Hurlburt Field, Florida and Detachment 1 located at Tyndall AFB, Florida.
